Dr. Jesse Hicks, Optometrist

Dr. Jesse Hicks was born in St Petersburg, Florida and grew up in Dunedin, Florida.

Dr. Hicks was an active boy scout while growing up and achieved Eagle Scout status at 17 years old.  He had high hopes of becoming an optometrist early in life.  By the time he was 8, he was already telling friends, family and teachers that he was destined to be an eye doctor.  After graduating from Dunedin High School in 1995, Dr. Hicks attended the St. Petersburg Junior College where he earned his Associate in Arts degree with Honors. He then attended the University of South Florida where he was inducted into the Gold Key Honor Society and the College of Arts and Sciences Honor Society. He earned his Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Natural Sciences in 2000.  Later that same year, Dr. Hicks was accepted to the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, where he completed his Doctor of Optometry in 2004. Since then he has practiced in various locations in and around the Tampa Bay area gaining further knowledge and experience in the art and science of Optometry.

Dr. Hicks is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Florida Optometric Association and the Hillsborough Society of Optometrists. He is now growing his affiliation with the Manasota Optometric Society here in Sarasota.

Annie Jo Hicks, Practice Manager

Annie was born in West Palm Beach, Florida and grew up in Port Charlotte, Florida.  Annie was an All-American cheerleader in high school and was a participant in the 1999 Pro-Bowl half-time show.  She left for Florida State University a month after graduating high school where she received her Associate of Arts degree.  She then moved to Tampa in order to attend The University of South Florida where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Gerontology in 2007.

Once a college graduate, Dr. Hicks recruited her to be his manager. Her talents have allowed SeePort Optometry to be born. Now with several years experience she handles many of the business aspects such as accounting and insurance. Dr. Hicks and Annie were married in November 2009.

Sally Rice, Licensed Optician

Sally Rice was born in Hialeah, Florida and grew up in the Hollandale/Hollywood Area.  She moved to New York in 1973 where she raised her three children.  She is now the proud Grandma of 3 beautiful grandchildren whom still reside in New York.  Sally started her optical career in 1986.  She received her New York State Ophthalmic Dispensing License in 1993.

Sally moved back to her home state of Florida in 2000 and now resides in Venice.  She received her Florida State Optician’s license in 2003.  Now with over 25 years of eye care experience, she is happy to work for such a caring practice like SeePort Optometry.

Winnie the Pooch, OD

(Office Dog or Office Distraction, depending on the day)

Winnie is without a doubt the glue that keeps our office together.  Once an orphan, Winnie is now a thriving part of Dr. Hicks and Annie's life as well as sunshine in the office.  She is the official welcome wagon once you step foot in our optical.  She enjoys long walks, a balanced diet and a good belly scratch.  Stop by and say hello!
