Single Vision Lenses – These lenses will clear vision at one focal point. Patients under 40 generally require single vision lenses, most for distance. Single vision can also be calculated for near vision (reading) or computer work (intermediate). SeePort has acquired an in house optical lab and edger, enabling us to produce same day eyewear for the North Port Community.

Lined Bi-Focal Lenses – These lenses have 2 focal points corrected for the patient. The top portion is for distance correction and the bottom half of the lens is for near vision.

Progressive Lenses have 3 focal points designed in the lens. The top is for distance, then as the patient looks down (to read for example) the lens progressively adds in power in order to help the eyes and brain process that smaller print.

Computer Lenses – Computer lenses are considered specialty lenses, but they are designed like a progressive. the majority of the lens is configured for the distance between your eyes and your computer screen, making it much more comfortable and clear while working, studying or playing games. We recommend these specialty lenses for patients who have transitioned into at home work or school in particular. We also offer a blue light blocking and/or absorbing lens for additional comfort while looking at a screen for long periods of time.

Eyeglass Lens Materials:

Plastic
Most people refer to this type as “plastic” lenses. This lens is light weight compared to glass (which for safety reasons we NEVER recommend), and may be made in just about all prescriptions.

Trivex
A lightweight and thin option, Trivex is preferable to polycarbonate. It is impact resistant for safety, thin for ascetics and optical superior for your vision.

Polycarbonate
Because of the way this material bends light in a different way than plastic lenses, your lenses will be thinner than the same prescription in plastic lenses. These lenses also have the added benefit for those frequently outdoors, under fluorescent lights, or using computers in that they filter ultra violet light naturally, blocking 99% of the damaging light.

High Index
The higher the index of refraction the quicker the light will pass through a lens, so less actual lens material is needed meaning the higher the index, the thinner the lens. These lenses are helpful in higher power prescriptions.
